WHAT IS COACHING SUPERVISION?

THE FUNCTIONS OF SUPERVISION

The three functions of coaching supervision are:

  1. Normative – contributing to the quality of work and ethical decision making;
  2. Formative/Developmental – facilitating the personal and professional development of the coach;
  3. Restorative – providing emotional support.

In addition to exploring all three functions of supervision and personal and professional development, one-on-one supervision is particularly useful to:

  • Develop insights into the beneficial and problematic patterns in the coach’s approach to coaching
  • Understand difficult issues in the coaching engagement and formulate effective responses to those issues
  • Assist the coach in developing and maintaining professional practice, so that the interests of the client, coach and the coaching industry are served
